Celebrate the Day
Go “green” and help the environment today by composting. Composting is nature’s process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost. Anything that was once living will decompose. Most composting is garden and yard vegetation, as well as kitchen scraps (like vegetables and fruit). Use compost around your plants, to feed them, keep the weeds down, and to help retain soil moisture. You may be surprised to know what things can be come compost. Cardboard paper towel roll, untreated wood, peanut shells, sawdust, pinecones and needles… all make “brown” materials (Carbon). Green materials (nitrogen) can consist of coffee grounds (and the paper filter), eggshells, weeds, grass clippings, and banana peels. Learn more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compost.
