Happy Birthday Walt Disney!

On this day (December 5) in 1901, Walt Disney was born. The Cheeps are celebrating this famous American entertainer, inventor, cartoonist and entrepreneur. He is also known as the father of modern theme parks. Disney is best-known for his cartoon characters – Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Pluto. We found out from Wikipedia that Mr. Disney was once fired from a newspaper company for his lack of creativity. His first full-length animated movie was Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.  In the 1950s, Disney created his first theme park, DisneyLand, in Anaheim, California. He earned 32 academy awards. Disney died in 1966 of lung cancer.

Next week the movie, “Saving Mr. Banks”, is about the Walt Disney and P.L. Travers, the author of “Mary Poppins”. This drama chronicles the production of  “Mary Poppins.” For 20 years Ms. Travers fended off Walt Disney’s attempt to adapt her series of books into a movie.  The film’s title refers to the name of the fictional father, who was inspired by Ms. Travers’s own father.
